Australia’s largest and only fully integrated precious metals enterprise, The Perth Mint has taken out IFAP’s SafeWay Health and Wellbeing Award for its outstanding mental health program.

The Award was presented to the Perth Mint at Crown Towers ballroom on Friday 15 October 2021.

Part of Western Australia’s premier industry work health and safety awards, the IFAP (Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention) SafeWay awards recognise outstanding innovation, management, strategies and contribution of both individuals and organisations in work health and safety.

The Health and Wellbeing Award acknowledges and recognises a positive contribution of an individual or organisation towards improving work health and wellbeing.

The Perth Mint was awarded for their excellent ‘Mentally Healthy workplace’ program. This program focuses on cultivating a workplace with employee wellbeing and safety at the forefront.

Group Manager, Organisation and Cultural Development, Kristen Potter said creating a safe and sustainable workplace for all employees was a key focus for The Perth Mint.

“It is imperative for organisations to provide a workplace that is free from bullying and discrimination, where mental or physical problems are understood without stigma and employees know how to respond appropriately and effectively to people who face difficulties,” she said.

“We are honoured to be presented with this award and are dedicated to further educate others, learn, and adapt as required in the changing landscape of mental health to keep our employees safe within and outside of the workplace.”

The Perth Mint’s approach to mental health involves implementing actions across three key areas: promotion, protection, and support. Initiatives already in place include a large network of mental health first aid officers, flexible working arrangements for employees, healthy lifestyle reimbursements, corporate volunteering days and employee access to a registered psychologist onsite.

The Perth Mint is also recognised as a ‘Gold Mental Health First Aid Skilled Workplace’ by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
